Students with Special Needs in Studies

BUT offers the folowing support services:

Students with learning disorders:

  • taking the disadvantage into account in their studies;
  • assistive software for working with texts;
  • English taught one-to-one (or in a group);
  • psychologist consultation on effective learning styles.

Students with locomotive impairments:

  • taking the disadvantage into account in their studies;
  • records from lessons taught;
  • learning assistance and personal assistance;
  • spatial orientation in the premises of the University;
  • one-to-one teaching;
  • and other individualised services.

Students with hearing impairment:

  • taking the disadvantage into account in their studies;
  • interpreting services;
  • records from lessons taught and simultaneous recording (transcript);
  • making the relevant literature accessible;
  • study assistance;
  • one-to-one teaching;
  • information about loop equipment at BUT;
  • and other individualised services.

Students with visual impairment:

  • taking the disadvantage into account in their studies;
  • technology making teaching and study literature accessible;
  • assistance services;
  • adaptation of study literature;
  • and other individualised services.

Students with mental diseases:

  • taking the disadvantage into account in their studies;
  • assistive software for working with texts;
  • one-to-one teaching;
  • psychologist consultation on effective learning styles.

Student applying for study support:

  • Shall contact an employee of the Counselling Centre and arrange a meeting in person. Ideally before the beginning of the semester.
  • Further, the student shall submit recognisable documents or undergo diagnostics. On this basis, the impact of the disability on the studies is evaluated and the document titled Recommendations for Adaptation of Studies is developed.
  • The Counselling Centre provides for communication with the lecturers, application of support in studies and support services in studies. The Centre also acquaints the student with his or her duties.
  • The student studies in the relevant adapted mode of studies, receives support services and gives feedback to the Counselling Centre. In the next semester the student shall contact the Counselling Centre in order to declare that his/her special educational needs and interest in adaptation of the studies continue.
